As with most commercial air freshener products, they cover up odors. The ones recommended above neutralize odors and leave a clean fresh scent. Of course you don’t want to overuse… Consider the right balance is different for every home.
Natural Methods
Regular vacuuming helps remove odors – about once per week.
Open your windows on a regular basis – clear the place out! Fresh air and cross breezes all the way!
Sprinkle Baking Soda, wait a half-hour or so, then vacuum. You already know about leaving an open box of baking soda for the fridge, don’t you? Well, you can also sprinkle it on carpets, and vacuum up one-half hour later or so. Many other places – furniture, mattress, shoes and more.
White Vinegar as a room freshener and odor neutralizer, even in the wash during the wash cycle
Charcoal Pouches – place anywhere – in shoes, near the trash, garage (keep away from pets & children)
Some houseplants give of beautiful scents, then again lemon peel, cinnamon sticks and cloves, potpourri…
Also… Vodka! Yes! Spritz some cheap plain vodka from a spray bottle!
